Relational Accountability and Strategic Methodologies

Dr. Marcia McKenzie
There have been increasing calls for forms of critique which go beyond pointing out the blind spots of others or maintaining one’s own, and instead developing new tools and approaches that are more generative than deconstructive. Starting from a position of relational accountability to people and place, this talk will ask what kinds of new critical ‘equipment’ and tactics might be of use in times where truth has less purchase than ideologies of neoliberalization. It will explore the mobilization of strategic research methodologies which seek to employ the politics of evidence in attempts to intervene critically and generatively in policy and practice, at the same time as maintaining a wariness of the potential dangers of such approaches.
